Interested in mastery based grading? This writing rubric allows students to reflect on their level of mastery regarding the various writing standards they are working to meet.
 
This rubric is standard-aligned to CC.W.9-10.2, the Common Core standard for writing explanatory/analytical responses. This rubric addresses all sub-standards (a-f) to have students target areas of their explanatory writing.
 
This interactive rubric allows students to truly reflect on their essays. Mastery criteria of common core writing standard is listed down the center column. Students provide evidence of meeting or lacking criteria in side columns. This exercise involves students' metacognition in self-assessing the presence or absence of their own work to meet mastery.
 
Suggested use: Instead of giving students this full rubric, print only the specific section(s) you want them to focus on at a time.
