This free printable allows you to create your own subordinating conjunction manipulatives.
 
1) Print the document on neon cardstock for the biggest impact.
2) Laminate and cut out your subordinating conjunction words/phrases.
3) Slap some magnetic tape on the back.
 
Directions:
Hide these around your room before students come in! Tell students to find at least one each. Then have them write a sentence that begins with their word/phrase. They can trade words with a friend for more practice. Now you have caught their attention and you can explain what a complex sentence is!
